El Museu d’Art Contemporani Ecatepec (MArCE) és un col·lectiu sorgit en 2015 amb l'objectiu d'agrupar les inquietuds de gestors, artistes, activistes i públic local. Amb la idea de fer un museu que no és un lloc sinó una idea, un projecte, un encadenament d'accions desplegades per aquest col·lectiu d'artistes i curadors convençuts de poder vincular unes certes pràctiques de l'estètica contemporània amb les seves comunitats d'origen, situades en el que es coneix comunament com a “perifèria” de la Ciutat de Mèxic, al poble de Santa Clara Coatitla, Ecatepec, Estat de Mèxic.
Brindar als habitants d'aquest territori l'oportunitat d'entrar en contacte amb l'art contemporani i utilitzar-lo per a donar sortida a les seves preocupacions socials, polítiques, econòmiques, ambientals i fins i tot emotives, així com generar alternatives de solució per a aquestes.
“La comunitat és qui determina el futur de la seva reproducció social. Nosaltres només proporcionem majors elements de ponderació, assumint i fixant la nostra postura a través d'una acció. És la gent la que, al final del camí, genera el canvi, no nosaltres”
diu Jaime Delgado Rubio, investigador especialista en arqueologia urbana i professor de la Facultat de Ciències Polítiques i Socials de la UNAM.
Pràctiques com les efectuades pel MArCE, conclou, només signifiquen reflexió i goig per a les persones no dedicades a àmbits artístics, d'estudi o recerca. Perquè, en última instància, les principals preocupacions de la gent són econòmiques i familiars.
En aquesta perspectiva, l'entorn social i comunitari imposa prioritats ineludibles. Sobretot si es considera que Ecatepec figura entre els municipis amb més violència, inseguretat i pobresa no sols de l'Estat de Mèxic sinó del país.

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Ecatepec (MArCE) is a collective that emerged in 2015 with the aim of bringing together the concerns of managers, artists, activists and the local public. With the idea of making a museum that is not a place but an idea, a project, a chain of actions carried out by this collective of artists and curators convinced of being able to link certain practices of contemporary aesthetics with their communities of origin, located in what is commonly known as the "periphery" of Mexico City, in the town of Santa Clara Coatitla, Ecatepec, State of Mexico.
To provide the inhabitants of this territory with the opportunity to come into contact with contemporary art and use it to address their social, political, economic, environmental and even emotional concerns, as well as to generate alternative solutions for these.
"The community is the one that determines the future of its social reproduction. We only provide greater elements of weighting, assuming and fixing our position through action. It is the people who, at the end of the road, generate change, not us",
says Jaime Delgado Rubio, a researcher specialising in urban archaeology and professor at the UNAM's Faculty of Political and Social Sciences. Because, in the end, people's main concerns are economic and family ones. In this perspective, the social and community environment imposes unavoidable priorities.
Especially if we consider that Ecatepec is one of the municipalities with the most violence, insecurity and poverty not only in the State of Mexico but also in the country.
