“Mirar és decidir”

Mirar és obrir un diàleg visual amb allò que tenim davant. On donem la nostra opinió sobre l'alteritat; una projecció d'allò que habita en la nostra memòria i d'allò que també la sorprèn. Com aprenem a parlar hem d'aprendre a mirar, per no mirar sempre al mateix lloc, per adquirir una consciència que ens permeti replantejar els marcs amb que delimitem la realitat.
També estem per admirar o embadalir-nos, fer treballar el nostre interior mentre al voltant el temps es para. Barrejar-nos i transformar-nos amb el que mirem amb força. Però també mirem per destruir la invisibilitat de certes realitats, que desapareixen rere filtres socials que ens han incultat.
Treballar la mirada en els nens és construir la memòria i omplir-los de referents, no tan per etiquetar com per identificar-se amb el que els envolta i generar empatia. Donar presència al que mirem per fer-nos presents. I perquè mirem amb empatia, mirem pels altres; mirem pels qui no poden veure, o pels qui no volen creure.
Per què mirar és projectar i decidir a què donem presència i a què no.
Començant per un mateix!
To look is to open a visual dialogue with what we have before us. It is how we inform our opinions of that which is outside ourselves; it is a surprising projection of what inhabits our memory. As we learn to speak, we learn to look around, in new places, in order to acquire a consciousness that allows us to develop and rethink the frameworks with which we define reality.
We also want to admire ourselves by working on our inner selves while time is ripe. We want to mix and transform what we see but we also seek to destroy the invisibility of certain realities which have disappeared behind the social filters that have taken over us.
Working with the eyes of children, we use memories and references to incite them to go beyond labeling their surroundings but to encourage them to generate empathy through their gaze-- giving presence to what they see. As they learn to look emphatically, they learn to look at others: to those who cannot see or cannot believe.
Because to look is to project and decide what we do and do not give presence to.
Starting with ourselves!
En l’edició de 2017 vam proposar reptes als nens i nenes a través de les arts visuals - fotografia, pintura, escultura, il.luminació, video -, per qüestionar-nos què vèiem i aprendre a moure’ns i a escoltar davant d’una imatge; volíem canviar la perspectiva i el punt de vista de com mirem les coses habitualment. Un viatge des de l’il·lusionisme al realisme on la ceguera també va ser una guia per fer-nos visionaris de tot allò que està dins del nostre imaginari. Vam jugar amb filtres, miralls, òptiques i els vam proposar, socialment, mirar d’una altra manera: mirar pels altres!
In the 2017 edition, we challenged the children with visual arts - photography, painting, sculpture, lighting, video - to question what they saw and to learn to move and listen to an image. We wanted to change the perspective and point of view of how we look at things habitually. A journey from illusionism to realism where blindness was a guide in making us visionaries of everything that is within our imagination. We played with filters, mirrors, opticals and we proposed to socially look in other ways: looking at others!
