L'arquitectura és l'art de projectar o construir edificis i d'altres estructures físiques. Una definició més ampla també inclouria el disseny de tot l'ambient o entorn construït: des de l'urbanisme, fins al disseny de mobles. És una de les sis belles arts.
Però quan parlem de Smiljan Radić l’arquitectura esdevé un altre miratge gairebé fora d’aquesta realitat.
El seu llibre OBRA GRUESA és una oda a l'estudi de l'arquitectura experimental o aquest àmbit de les realitats improbables en el qual els límits de l'arquitectura es difuminen.

Smiljan Radić Clarke (Santiago de Xile, 1965) es gradua a l'Escola d'Arquitectura de la Universitat Catòlica de Xile en 1989, i més tard estudia en el Istitutto Universitari di Architetturadi Venezia, a Itàlia. El 1995 obre el seu propi estudi a Santiago de Xile. El 2001 és triat el millor arquitecte jove menor de 35 anys pel Col·legi d'Arquitectes de Xile; el 2008 rep el Premi Design Vanguard de Architectural Record; en 2009 és nomenat membre honorari del American Institute of Architects, els EUA; el 2013, 2015 i 2018 obté el premi al Millor Edifici Xilè de la Universitat Major, Xile; el 2015 rep el Premi Oris, Croàcia; el 2018 el Teatre BioBío és escollit entre els millors edificis dins del marc del Premi Design Vanguard de Architectural Record; i el 2018 rep el Premi Arnold W. Brunner Memorial de la Acadèmia Americana d’Arts i Lletres, als EUA. També construeix el Pavelló de les Serpentines Galleries a Londres el 2014.
Smiljan Radić és president de la Fundació d'Arquitectura Fràgil, l'objectiu de la qual és promocionar l'estudi i la difusió de l'arquitectura experimental.
Actualment viu i treballa a Xile, sempre en estreta col·laboració amb l'escultora Marcela Correa

Architecture is the art of designing or constructing buildings and other physical structures. A broader definition would also include the design of the entire environment or built environment: from urban planning to furniture design. It is one of the six fine arts.
But when we talk about Smiljan Radić architecture becomes another mirage almost out of this reality.
His book OBRA GRUESA is an ode to the study of experimental architecture or this field of improbable realities in which the limits of architecture are blurred.

Smiljan Radić Clarke (Santiago de Chile, 1965) graduated from the School of Architecture of the Universidad Católica de Chile in 1989, and later studied at the Istitutto Universitario di Architetturadi Venezia, in Italy. In 1995 he opens his own studio in Santiago de Chile. In 2001 he is elected the best young architect under 35 years old by the Chilean Association of Architects; in 2008 he receives the Design Vanguard Award of Architectural Memory; in 2009 he is appointed honorary member of the American Institute of Architects, USA. In 2013, 2015 and 2018 he was awarded the prize for the Best Chilean Building at the Universidad Mayor, Chile; in 2015 he received the Ores Prize, Croatia; in 2018 the BioBío Theatre was chosen among the best buildings within the framework of the Design Vanguard Award for Architectural Memory; and in 2018 he received the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, USA. He is also building the Serpentine Galleries Pavilion in London in 2014.
Smiljan Radić is president of the Fragile Architecture Foundation, whose aim is to promote the study and dissemination of experimental architecture.
He currently lives and works in Chile, always in close collaboration with the sculptor Marcela Correa
